The Lester Wendt and Michael Lester Wendt
Character Initiative

UD Campus

Fall 2012, our Wendt Character Scholars’ theme is  Shaping Character for Lives of Purpose.

The Plaque about the Wendt Character Initiative outside of the Wendt Center reads in part:

Centered in the University’s Mission and Values and consonant with its Reformed Christian identity, the Initiative engages the university community in a cooperative and spirited effort to foster intellectual understanding of and personal commitment to leading lives of purpose and excellent moral character.

This semester we explore questions related to the Wendt Initiative mission stated on that plaque such as:

  • Why do service?
  • What is the Christian story and how does it relate to character?
  • What is excellent moral character?
  • How do I make ethical decisions?
  • Who needs virtue?
  • What is academic integrity?

Through lectures by Wendt staff and visiting speakers, films, mentor group discussions, and other activities, we'll pursue lives of purpose and excellent moral character.

Gratitude Week is back November 12-16! By popular demand, the Wendt scholars will again blanket our community with a spirit of gratitude for a whole week, as Thanksgiving approaches. We will express and encourage gratefulness across campus through a variety of messages and activities directing attention to the grace and goodness we've received in our lives and opportunities to give back thankfully.
